fun for kids, not fun for parents
By missdarkstar

My daughter loves playing with this but her trouble as a 5 year old is using the icing tool to push out the playdoh onto her creations.... it isn't the easiest getting the playdoh out of the bottom - sometimes have to stick my finger inside to push the playdoh down. Cleaning that tool out is a headache, especially using the playdoh plus - it is softer than the regular playdoh and that makes it harder to gather/clean. The plus playdoh is to be used to make the icing look more realistic but since its worse to maintain, we will use the regular stuff. My daughter loves the dinging on the oven when it is pushed down.

Adorable play-doh set
By B. McCarthy

Play-doh itself is such a great toy for kids. My kids of different ages (8, 6 and 4) can play with it for hours. This set is great. They are really enjoying it (they're actually playing with it right now as I right this review). This set comes with several small containers of play-doh and a variety of molds where the kids can make different "desserts" like cupcakes and ice cream. It's small but it has so much to it. They can put a variety of molds in the oven and when they push it down it makes a ding to show that it's done. The molds are in the shape of cakes, candy and so many other things. It seems like every inch of it is covered in molds, which is great for the kids. It has so many little extras like a little rolling pin and an icing syringe.

There is a lot to this set but it is still very little. Some of the play-doh sets are big and take up so much room but this is small and has so much packed into it. It even has a place to store several of the containers of play-doh.

I would definitely recommend this product. One of the more cute ones we have (and we have a lot).

Cute and creative idea for Play-Doh
By Susan G.

I ordered this set for my grandsons, aged 5 and 2. They both love to play with Play-Doh and I was looking for something that would allow the 5 year old to be creative, but simple enough for the 2 year old to be able to join in. We already have the Play-Doh Ice Cream Shop and the Sweet Shoppe is the perfect complement to it.

The Sweet Shoppe Double Desserts Playset is relatively small compared to some of the other Play-Doh Playsets, but for me that's a good thing, since it doesn't take up much storage space. The set comes with lots of molds (for cakes, cupcakes, etc) and an "oven," where the kids bake their creations. It also comes with a rolling pin, a small icing pusher (looks like a syringe), several utensils and several small cans of Play-Doh. The Double Desserts Playset is easier to operate than the Ice Cream Playset, so the boys take turns "baking" birthday cakes and making ice cream. Perfect for this age range and grandma and grandpa also love to join in. I would recommend this Playset to anyone with kids who like to be creative with Play-Doh.

Cute Idea, but Mediocre Excecution
By Shanshad

My kids love Play-Doh. We've been enjoying the stuff for years with a variety of toys and tools and just plain old table surfaces. When the Sweet Shoppe came up as an option on Vine, I thought it'd be a nice add on for Play-Doh fun and exploration. The Sweet Shoppe comes with a large set piece (a bit of assembly required) that holds an "oven" with a top door that presses down with a "ding!". Molds can be placed inside with Play-Doh so that the top of the stove helps press it into shape. Also part of the set is a two-container holder for the "icing" Play-Doh. There are three molds, a scoop and a server, two plates and an icing syringe. There are four small containers of Play-Doh included with the set. The two slightly larger containers are regular Play-Doh while the two smaller containers apparently container a smoother type of Play-Doh specifically meant for "icing".

First things first. I have two children, 3 and 5 years old. The very first apparent problem with this set, no matter how cool it is, is that it's really meant for a single player, and two children trying to use the set at once. There's only one molder, and one syringe for icing the goodies they make, so even if you have children who love to make intricate play food out of clay, they need to have some extraordinary patience for waiting their turn.

I could have used another icing syringe and a few extra tools to help balance things a bit more. The info on this toy mention with delight that the oven "really dings". Yes, yes it does. It dings and dings and dings. Honestly while this set recommends 3 and up, my three year old preferred merely "dinging" the oven over and over to any actual creative Play-Doh making. She's also not really patient enough to craft the cakes and ice them, and prefers just to shove the Play-Doh into the icing syringe and make snakes with it. I would probably recommend this for an older child who likes crafting in Play-Doh or clay-- it's wasted on my 3 year old. My son liked the overall idea and played with it for a while, but lost interest after that.

Like most highly specific sets, this one is fairly limited in scope and what it produces. It's fine for what it is--and if you've a little crafter who loves the idea of "baking" treats or is particularly fascinated by different things they can create with clay, then it's probably a great little addition. But it's not going to be the best pick for someone who wants a more general Play-Doh set, or who has limited space options for storage.

Quite possibly my greatest complaint about this set is that there seems to be no thought into how someone might store this. I live in an apartment where being able to put things away in a box on a shelf is necessary. This Sweet Shoppe set isn't so large (about the size of a small shoebox) but it's not easily put away.

Once the oven pieces are permanently snapped on, the set is too tall to fit back in its original box. And while half the set is taken up by a little storage holder for the Play-Doh plus containers, it has no holder for the other two Play-Doh, nor does it have any place to put the other pieces of the set. So you're left with not simply an awkwardly shaped Play-Doh set that requires storage when not in use, but two extra containers and two handfuls of plastic accessories that require a container of their own for storage.

Nevertheless, the Play-Doh itself provided a good deal of fun, as Play-Doh will. I managed to make an impressive little cake with ice cream and icing, so it does do as advertised. My son's cake-making was done with much adult assistance, although he just needed some direction for most of it. My daughter, as mentioned, really prefers just a free for all with the Play-Doh.

Happy Creating! ^_^ Shanshad

Exactly what a parent would expect from a Play-Doh set
By Beanomly

My son loves Play-Doh like every other kid in the world. This set was on par with about all the others. As usual, I would have liked to see more Play-Doh included with it. The cake baking theme is cute and a new one for us, but at the end of the day, it’s molds and a little plastic oven. He enjoyed playing with it for about 30 minutes, got the colors all mixed up, and hasn’t picked it up since. But, the set is exactly what it advertises which is why I gave it all five stars and I’m pretty sure most parents know a little Play-Doh set isn’t going to entertain a child for hours and hours on end.
